The purpose of a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is to identify the functions of the child’s maladaptive behaviors, appropriate replacement behaviors, and the environmental variables impacting the child. A comprehensive FBA typically requires 6-8 weeks to complete based on the contracting period and the specific procedures involved. However, it is important to note that the timeline to complete the assessment process will depend on several factors (i.e. family availability for appointments, insurance company approval process, etc.) Upon completion of the assessment process, Collaborative Therapies provides a comprehensive report detailing recommendations for treatment of maladaptive behaviors by providing a detailed behavior intervention plan. The behavior intervention plan will include antecedent (i.e. proactive) and consequence (i.e. reactive) strategies that the clinical team will follow once your child’s services begin. Additionally, the FBA will include recommendations for teaching age-appropriate functional skills, goals for the intervention team to follow addressing appropriate replacement behavior skills and the child’s skill deficits. Recommendations for services vary based on the needs of the child and the requirements of the contracting agency. Some examples of different types of behavior services that might be recommended include: 1:1 behavioral intervention services, parent consultation, program supervision, and social skills training. It is important to note that not all assessments result in recommendations for direct services.
